I have always been in love with words.
From the way they can paint pictures in the mind and transport you
far, far away from where you are; to the origins and meanings of a
singular word or phrase. Words are, without a doubt in my mind, one
of the most beautiful gifts that God has given us.
As a little girl I had a love of
books, and learned to read at a very young age. That love has not
diminished one iota as I've aged, in fact it has grown. As the years
passed I moved quickly from picture books to novels. Like most
people, I passed through many phases with my book choices. I bounced
from Tolkien to cheap Harlequin romance novels (supplied by my
Grandmother) to Agatha Christie, and then back to Tolkien again. It
seemed that the Fantasy world had its talons embedded inside me, and
it hasn't let go.
My love of words and the worlds they
create has spilled far beyond that of just reading them in books. I
wrote my first fiction piece in the third grade, complete with
illustrations, and the words that my teacher told me after reading it
have stuck with me through all of these years: This is gold. From
that moment on the fire was lit, and I knew that I needed to write.
Off and on over the years I have written various stories, even a few fanfiction pieces, though I never seemed
to finish them. It's only been in the past year that I've really,
seriously, sat down to work. My computer is littered with notes on
various story ideas, all of them having two things in common: they
are born out of my dreams, and they all belong to the fantasy world
which is so close to my heart.
I am currently drafting an Urban Fantasy piece set in the South- as I believe that the Southern United States is capable of producing more than just vampires and werewolves.
I intend to use this blog as a soundboard of sorts. A place where I can come to rant, rave, think things through, and just generally be who I am: An eccentric writer.
